Auto-Biography

By: Udit Chauhan
It was on 20th September 1987, the day on which I was born. My parents were in Mahendergarh at the time of my birth. My father was doing their H.C.S service there only and my mother was preparing for judiciary exams.
I had seen my childhood gallery when I was just around a year and my mother was helping me bathing in a small tub like utensil. I mean that it was normal for my mother to take care of me as other humans do to their off-spring. I had also seen her photo in which she’s pregnant and when I first saw that photo, when I was around 8 years old, I just got surprised to hear that at that time I was in my mother’s womb, preparing to enter in this real world of specific dimensions.
I am sorry to say that I still can’t remember before the days when I was in 1st class. Few memories take me to the place known as Palwal, near Delhi. I was in Palwal Public school in which I’d completed my L.K.G class and half session of U.K.G. I remember that we were living in a big single storied building which was completely red in color. There was a cactus tree in the right corner of the lawn just after entering the property. We used to play with that tree much and it was very helpful for me to peep outside the big giant wall. As I was older than my younger brother, I was the boss.
I can feel the greenery and freshness of the lawn in the fresh morning when I was used to go to my school. A bag which was equal to the weight of mine was carried by my mother till the school gate. Yes! My first school was only a single storied school because I had never went to the part of it, higher than our class-room. There was a small lawn at the back-side of the school and after that there was the big playground where we all small students were used to play various kids games.
One day, I don’t know why, the prize distribution were held at the back-side of the school where all the students including me were sitting in the lawn attending the same, facing the corridor in back-side of the school where prizes were kept and I felt that they were shining like gold, may be due to sunlight’s reflection. The prize distribution was started and I was enjoying talking with my friends because I was not interested in them. But after some time I thought that why didn’t I got that shields? And why other friends were getting them? After such thought, suddenly, prize distributor called my name. I was amazed and also the teacher, I think, she’s our class-teacher also called me following the words of the distributor. I stood up, reached the corridor by making path between the crowd’s foiled legs and took the prize in my hand not knowing why I got it too? I still have a snap showing that expression of surprise as well as confused state of mind.
At that age, my parents and that house was everything to me. I played, laughed, cried, got punished of my mistakes, committed mischiefs and etc, and etc. One day, I was playing with sand in the back-side of the house where different vegetables were grown.
I am telling only those events which I still can recall, no matter, if they are logical or not.
So,
Yes, I was playing with the sand in that field. I was very happy in playing with sand because it was my first habit which I continued succeeding years.
It was my first birthday at that house which was celebrated like someone’s marriage was held there. All the guests were present but no one was willing to pay attention to me because I was very young to understand their words and off-course their talk. Infact, I was interested only in the present brought for me at that time.
I was very fond of fire. Whenever I got any matchbox, I used to ignite anything rubbish I gets in my way. One day, I got match-box lying in the kitchen and went under my fathers study table as I was small enough to sneak under every big object. I ignited a bulk of newspaper under the seat of which the base was made of plastic-wires. I burnt the whole paper and surprisingly paper catches fire violently as we all know and what I was observing was burning plastic wires of the seat adjoining my fathers study table. As this incident was new for me so I was happy but I recalled the bad expressions of my father and then I realized that what will my father do when he’ll came to know about my act’s result. And off-course I was punished in that evening.
I was also very fond of the taste of the powdered cement which I consume by making a crater in the wall. One day my mother realized that I was having bad habit of eating the cement of the walls and hence she firstly beats me and then took out a bowl and ordered to take all the cement of the wall in that bowl and eat them. I was confused, what to do at that time as I was unaware of the reason that my parents were trying to make me aware of my bad habits.
I still remember Bahmani Uncle & aunt, who were quiet far away from our house. I was always ready to go to their house and gets excited whenever I listens my parents talking about a visit to their house. This was because they always had some little prankies made of plastic of different animals like giraffe, elephant, rhinoceros etc which amazes me when they stands on the floor on their own.
Now some flashback from Bahadurgarh:
It was the first place where we shifted to the second house. I still remember the house number which was 4242; I think so because the number of our scooter which we sold it later was the hint for the house number. It was around 2424 and hence house number was just opposite. I was in class 1st and had done my 2nd class from their only. The school’s name was BAL Bharti School. The school was very nice; I liked its magnificent building’s dimensions and my friends who studied with me. But I hate my drawing teacher very much as she was very stubborn and beats me on every single mistake. I knew that she hadn’t any heart inside her black body. It was my first day in school in 1st class when I first met her. She was very ugly and her face was completely black. She appeared like a black pumpkin to me. As I was unaware of the rules of that school like example one had to ask madam to get permission even to go outside the class for drinking or anything. I didn’t know that so I asked my new friend sitting besides my seat about how could I go outside the class for toilet. They played pranks with me and told me just go out of the class without asking madam. I just went outside the class and I think, madam was unaware of my absence because as I entered the class after emergency work she saw me entering and caught me by my ears and asked me, from where I was coming? I told her very truth but she ignored my words and slapped me hard on my red face. I think her fingerprints were created on my cheek at that moment and then I sat quietly on my seat looking to my new enemies of the class.
There was a sweet little girl just of my age was living on the left side of rear lane from our house. We (i.e. my brother too who is 2 year younger than me) used to play with her during day time, any game which just rings our mind. She was used to lead us in every game as she was in the same class as mine but she’s intelligent than me. Her mom was very health conscious besides she was quiet overweight. Whenever she saw me stirring the fingers in my nose she immediately orders me to wash our hands before entering into her dumb house. That girl’s name was ### who was slim, smart and too fast to catch. ### was very afraid of lizards because once I saw her screaming by pointing her fingers toward her small almirah containing her Barbie’s etc.
I was very fond of cycling during that age as I used to ride on it mostly during the day time.
There were two twins, living with their parents, one was a year younger and other was a year elder but amazing thing to be notice was that they says me “Bhaiya” before starting any statement. Then I came to know that my own brother was not giving me such respect as those children’s of neighbor do.
One day, I was racing with one of them, I can’t recall who was he, the younger one or elder one, but I was leading him happily. This was because my cycle's tyre was bigger than his. When he got too far behind I turned my head backward to see him coming but, I know, he was not there. As I turned my head in forward direction while riding the bicycle with the maximum speed I suddenly saw a big rock in front of me. My cycle hit it with large impulse. I was like whirling in the air and my bicycle was rotated to full 360 degree. And “boom”, I was on the ground with not even a scratch, surprisingly.
This was not the first time I got illusion. Before that one day I was riding the bicycle with full possible speed near that place only. I was wearing slippers which were loose for me but I was managing. Suddenly I got a jerk forward very hard and I fell down sideways with a great thud allowing the people nearby to get their attention. I realized that my slipper was in between the tyre cover and acted as a powerful brake for the that tyre.
As I was very fond of pets hence I requested my father for a little pup and the next week I got a black (German shepherd) pup. It was very cute and also it imitates the head position of mine. Whenever I twist my neck either side, he too does it. But there was something wrong in his habit. He used to roam around the house and eats the dung of cows and other animals. It was too unhygienic and one day my father caught him eating that stuff. He beats him very hard and from that day my father was against of that dog. His name was Jacky. Papa always beats him whenever he went outside the house’s gate. As there was an empty field in front of our house it was like a heaven for Jacky. After getting so many whips from dad he couldn’t bear that and got ill. We took him to veterinary hospital where he was admitted for two days. During that period I was busy in my exams but excited to meet Jacky after those two days. As he would be ok then, he’ll be more active. On 2nd day I was excited to meet Jacky and hence I was running to reach the house as quickly as possible but later I realized that it was of no use. Jacky was not there so I asked mamma about his absentness. She told me that Jacky was dead. As I was so small to grasp some emotions so I didn’t react to their statement but I felt bad because except my two year younger brother, no-one was with me to play; to whom I could play whenever I wants to. I felt sad but not on high emotions which children lacks. Hence I demanded another puppy.
But nobody gets what’s he/she wants in his/her life many times.
As it was shameful to say that I was once got habit to get taught in tuition making my parents to give extra money besides school fees. There was a family living in the backside of our house and I was used to go there daily for two months as I was not getting marks or studying satisfactorily according to my parents. In tuition, all the members were working, I think. There were three members i.e. father, mother and their son. Subjects were distributed among all three of them and I was the sink where they all dumped their knowledge consistently.
In tuition only, one day during study time, I got emergency call of the nature. I asked permission from them and rushed toward bathroom at the back right corner of the house. As I was very fast, I couldn’t see the large heavy trunk lying along the door of that room and suddenly its edge, by chance it wasn’t much sharp, hits to my right joint of thigh & abdomen. But I managed somehow to reach the bathroom and as I closed the door of bathroom, off-course from inside, I felt extreme weakness and a large fog covered my vision for few seconds. I thought to lie down their in that bathroom but it was too small just the size of a lavatory. Well that was an accident.
I still remember that one day, it was the time before the lunch time and I involved in fighting with my forced friend name “###”. It was forced because he was my friend due to friendship between our fathers. There was no respect for friendship in him. But whenever he knew that I bought Maggie in my Tiffin, that day, he become cool and come to me and sits besides my seat. But in childhood, anger doesn’t remains for long time so I invited him first and again everything was normal.
Now let’s enter in my school day in Bahadurgarh. I got hit by a keychain on my head by the principle of the school during assembly time. I confess I was busy in talking with my friends at that time but hitting by a hard metallic keychain to a 2nd grade student is worst in one's attitude.
In 2nd class, it was the new class after passing 1st class. After few days of classes a teacher asked a student a question on history and as usual I hate history now also. He asked her but by chance the question was out of syllabus so that girl escaped from the beat. I was amazed to see that. When after few days my turn came and the teacher asked me a question I replied the same statement as she did in her turn that the question was out of syllabus. But my bad luck, it was within the syllabus and hence increased my magnitude of punishment.
Another event was that I still remember that I got punishment outside the class. Well, I was busy in talking with my friend about the advertisement of the KIT-KAT by talking my legs on my head within the class during teaching hours. Madam saw me doing that and beats me up on my little red cheeks and forced me to get outside the class, catching the ears and something written on a sheet which was pasted on my back leading to a stream of smile to everyone’s face who reads it. I don’t know yet what was written on that sheet. Two other friends were also joined me at that time with whom I was busy in talking with
.
There in that school I learnt how to sharpen a pencil to much extent from my friend.
In house, there was a person name “###” who was a servant working in our house but I still remember he was very strict and stopped us in doing every small mischief.
One day father was sleeping and we both were playing in the same room quietly. Cooler was working and we were getting bored. Then I decided to do something wrong and split the water toward the moving blades of the cooler. Water got split into fine droplets and fell on my father's face who was sleeping there on the bed. He suddenly woke up, analyzed the situation and beat us to cry.
